The REAL Truth: PageRank is how Google orders the web internally. It is what allows them to search 50 billion pages for millions of searchers every day and return results in just a quarter of a second. As the web continues to grow at a mind-bending rate, you can expect PageRank to actually grow in importance as it is currently the best means to choose among millions of relevant results. Still unconvinced age and pagerank matters? Have a look at these actual results from a marketer who purchases aged and ranked domains:
I’ve recently bought some 5+ yr old domains (all pr2) that were in random niches. I did a small test to see if I could rank for keyphrases in niches that were completely unrelated. I see a lot of posts here that say you can’t do it, but don’t really show any proof or reasons as to why not.
Here’s my results:
Site #1 – 9yrs old pr2 – After 3 weeks of backlinking, I’m now top of page 2 for respective keyphrase.
Site #2 – 5yrs old pr2 – After 3 weeks of backlinking I’m now on bottom of page 1 for respective keyphrase.
Site #3 – 5 yrds old pr2 – After 3 weeks of backlinking I’m #5 for respective keyphrase.
Conclusion – For now in my small test, it seems the original niche does not matter. The sites have kept their original PR and they are ranking well and MUUUUCH faster than if I had started a new domain from scratch. I have new domains in the same niches that are trying to rank (keyphrase in the domain name) and they are not ranking nearly as well.
I’m also noticing in a few of the niches I’m involved in, there are a few aged repurposed domains that are just killing it in the rankings. I check the original niche and it isn’t even close to the niche it’s in now.
